For two weeks we scrubbed, purged closets, swept constantly, mopped, cleaned countertops religiously, finished installing cabinet locks, locked the guest toilet so securely it takes an engineer to open it…. We worked hard. All of this work was for a special visit we had Tuesday of this week. Our social worker, Keith and his adviser, Precious came to our home for a safety inspection and some individual interviews. After looking at the house in a matter of minutes and determining all we needed to do was go ahead and install our fence gate, we spent the next several hours answering questions about ourselves, our families, our friends and our children (present and future). If you are familiar with Star Trek, the best example I can offer up is the Vulcan mind meld without the actual physical contact. It was painful, invasive and emotional but most of all, it was worth it. It was worth it because it takes us one step closer to our baby. We have no idea where or when our baby is going to come into existence on this earth. However, we know that God knows and is preparing us for her (maybe him).
The next step is a meeting in Spanish Fort on February 24th. This meeting involves both of us, together with our social worker discussing things like our parenting styles, how we are going to be preparing for a new baby and all of the different circumstances we might and will face. We have a lot of decisions to make that we have never had to make before. We NEED you to pray that our decisions would first and foremost glorify God. We could make very selfish decisions but we want to desire what God wants for our family. We also WANT you to pray that our process will be expedient. Because of the changes in some tax laws, if our adoption is not finalized in this year, there will be financial consequences that we are more than willing to face but if we did not have to, we would be eternally grateful.
Thank you for your continued love and support. We look forward to sharing more details as they occur.
