We have been on this journey of adoption for a very long time. The topic invaded our marriage long before our first child was even a twinkle in our eye. Officially, the process began in November, 2011. Some days, that seems like another lifetime ago and today it seems like last week as we are shoving suitcases full of clothes, camera chargers, flip flops, and every pair of shorts we own (more for a couple of us than the other). We get a lot of the same questions so I just wanted to take this opportunity to give you a brief rundown of the next few months.
Rob, Hayes, and I will all travel together initially. Because of the country requirements, Rob has to be in-country for at least 60 days unless we get an appeal approved to reduce it to 30 days. After his required stay, Rob will travel back to the U.S. to work for a few weeks and each set of grandparents will make separate trips down so I am not attempting to function with 2 kiddos in a foreign country.
Several people have asked what we need. First, pray for us. God knows exactly what we need because He knows what we are going to face when we get there. Pray that we would be protected, rested, and wise. Pray that our girls will connect with one another instantly. Pray that every piece of paper that we need shows up when it’s needed.
We are fairly certain we have the funds we need but pray that we will continue to trust God to provide every dollar we need when we need it without getting stressed. It has been easy to trust because it has never come down to the wire. When in a foreign country where you may become a target for price gouging, things could get harrowing. Pray for financial providence.
We are headed for Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
We have booked an apartment with a starting date of May 24th and we will be there a minimum of 4 months.
